2016 Week 2 Review

The second week of the 2016 CSFL kicked off Friday night with a bang when Penn handed defending champion Army West Point a 14-9 defeat at Franklin Field. Navy got some revenge on Franklin Pierce after suffering an upset against the Ravens last year and Cornell picked up its first win of the year at Mansfield. WEEK 2 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Offensive Player of the Week: Andrew Sutton, WR, Penn (Receda, Calif.) Andrew Sutton caught five passes for 158 yards and one touchdown in Penn’s victory over Army West Point Friday night. The first week of the 2016 CSFL season saw defending champion Army West Point reel off its eighth straight win with a victory over Chestnut Hill, Navy cruise to a road victory at Cornell, Penn topple Mansfield in a nationally televised game and Franklin Pierce claim the “Talon Cup” with a win over Post. WEEK 1 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Offensive Player of the Week: Nick Deterding, QB, Navy (Lindsborg, Kan.) Deterding led Navy to a 40-7 road victory at Cornell with a hand in all six of Navy’s touchdowns, passing for four scores and rushing for two more. 2016 Week 1 Preview

The Collegiate Sprint Football League will open the 2016 season with a slate of four games this weekend, highlighted by a national television broadcast from Mansfield University. Defending league champion Army will kick things off with the first official game of the year Friday night (Sept. 16) when Chestnut Hill visits West Point for a 7 p.m. game. The Griffins played their first season in the league last year, but did not count towards the league standings in their inaugural season.
