2018 Week 2 Review

September 25, 2018

The second week of the CSFL season saw Army West Point come away with a dramatic 17-14 victory on the road at archrival Navy, St. Thomas Aquinas improve to 2-0 in its inaugural season, Chestnut Hill defeat Mansfield in a game that featured 103 total points and Penn improve to 2-0 on the year with a low-scoring win over Cornell.

WEEK 2 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Offensive Player of the Week: Keegan West, QB, Army (West Point, N.Y.)

West was impressive all night in a narrow win on the road at Navy, but came up clutch when he was needed most. He was 8-for-9 for 91 yards and one touchdown in the fourth quarter as Army scored 10 points over the final 15 minutes to come back to defeat Navy 17-14. West finished the night 27-of-37 for 248 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He connected with seven different receivers and also rushed for 24 yards on five carries.

Defensive Player of the Week: Dean Rye, LB, Navy (Fairfax, Va.)

Rye was all over the field for the Midshipmen and finished with a CSFL season-high 17 total tackles, including 10 solo stops while leading a defensive effort that held the high-powered Army offense to just 17 points. He also blocked one field goal attempt, had one pass breakup and added a tackle for loss to his final stat line.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Reggie Robinson Jr., WR, Chestnut Hill (Washington, D.C.)

Robinson Jr. accounted for 193 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns in Chestnut Hill’s 59-44 win over Mansfield. He caught six passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns, but finds himself as the special teams honoree this week after recovering an onside kick attempt and returning it 50 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to stop the momentum of a streaking Mansfield offense that put up 30 points in the fourth quarter.
