The third week of the CSFL season saw Navy improve to 3-0 to remain the only unbeaten team on the year. Army West Point, Mansfield and Caldwell all picked up wins to open divisional play with 1-0 records and Penn posted a big non-division win.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Offensive Player of the Week: Eddie Jenkins, QB, Penn (Pittsburgh, Pa.)
Jenkins completed 8-of-11 passes for 136 yards with one touchdown and rushed for 72 yards and three touchdowns on just seven carries, all in the first half of Penn’s 57-7 win on the road at Post. This is his second straight Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Defensive Player of the Week: David Postma, LB, Navy (Bellevue, Wash.)
Postma earns his second straight Defensive Player of the Week award after recording 14 total tackles in Navy’s 28-12 win on the road at Chestnut Hill. Postma also recorded 2.0 tackles for loss, one sack and one interception.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Nysir Smith, WR, Caldwell (Newark, N.J.)
Smith took the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown to set the early tone in Caldwell’s 43-0 road win at Alderson Broaddus. He also grabbed a 75-yard TD pass and finished with 159 all-purpose yards.
WEEK 3 RESULTS
- Navy (28) at Chestnut Hill (12)
Navy jumped out to a 14-0 lead and held off Chestnut Hill to improve to 3-0 on the season with a 28-12 win. The Midshipmen put up 271 yards of total offense with 124 passing yards and 147 rushing yards, while the Griffins put up 295 total yards with 206 passing yards and 89 rushing yards.
Braydan Chmiel led Navy with 109 rushing yards and one touchdown to go along with 124 passing yards and two scores. His TD tosses went to Eric Spicer and Walt Fagan. Jake Foss added a short TD run. David Postma recorded 14 total tackles, including nine solo and one sack, while also grabbing an interception to lead the Navy defense.
Michael Marino threw for 192 yards and one touchdown, which went to Domoree Hill. Hill finished the game with 118 receiving yards on seven catches. Sef Penson paced the ground game for the Griffins with 92 yards and one touchdown. Mike McIlhenney recorded nine total tackles and Rahsul Brown recorded one interception.
Navy will travel to Caldwell Saturday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff in week four, while Chestnut Hill will travel to Penn Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
- Army West Point (49) at Cornell (0)
Army jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 49-0 shutout on the road at Cornell. The Black Knights recorded 437 yards of total offense and held the Big Red to just 63 total yards.
Ryan Sullivan threw for two touchdowns and completed all seven of his pass attempts. Ben West threw for one score. Jack Felgar rushed for two touchdowns, while JC Watson and Matthew Sauter each rushed for one score. Justin Charette, Tom Williamson and Preston Pounds each caught one TD pass. Vincenzo Battaglia registered 2.5 tackles for loss.
Will Griffen rushed for 34 yards and threw for 25 yards for Cornell. Peter Sanchez finished with 12 total tackles, including 11 solo and 2.0 tackles for loss. Seth Henks added nine solo stops.
Cornell will travel to St. Thomas Aquinas Saturday for a 4 p.m. kickoff in week four, while Army will host Post Saturday night at 7 p.m.
- Penn (57) at Post (7)
Penn put up 417 yards of offense and held Post to just 69 yards on the way to a 57-7 road win last week.
Eddie Jenkins accounted for four touchdowns to lead Penn after rushing for 72 yards and three touchdowns and passing for 136 yards and one score. Laquan McKever added 82 rushing yards and two touchdowns and Sam Mintz also scored one rushing TD. Ben Klaus caught five passes for 105 yards and one score and McKever also caught one TD.
Naijuan Kennedy rushed for an 11-yard touchdown to lead the Post offense, which also got 107 passing yards from Nick D’Elia. Cameron Francet and Hansley Dalembe each recorded 10 tackles, with Francet also coming up with 3.0 tackles for loss.
Post will visit Army Saturday night at 7 p.m. in week four, while Penn will host Chestnut Hill Saturday at 1 p.m.
- Caldwell (43) at Alderson Broaddus (0)
Caldwell jumped out to a 30-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 43-0 win at Alderson Broaddus. The Cougars put up 424 yards of offense and held the Battlers to just 55 total yards.
Armani Bermudez rusher for 114 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries to lead Caldwell. Carl Watson added 69 yards and one rushing score. Timothy Palmer threw for 138 yards and two touchdowns, one of which was a 75-yarder to Nysir Smith. Frank DeMaio caught the other TD pass. Smith also took the opening kickoff 85 yards to the house. Caldwell’s defense came up with 12 tackles for loss, led by 2.5 from Joseph Mongelli.
Alderson Broaddus got nine tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss from Sam Soloman. Timmy Tillman and Joshua Derocher combined for 71 passing yards. Tahj Roberts caught three passes for 40 yards.
Alderson Broaddus will play its first road game in week four with a Saturday trip to Mansfield for a 1 p.m. kickoff. Caldwell will host Navy Saturday night at 7 p.m.
- St. Thomas Aquinas (6) at Mansfield (31)
Mansfield jumped out to a 24-0 lead on the way to posting a 31-6 home win over St. Thomas Aquinas last week. The Mounties put up 349 yards of offense with 188 passing and 161 rushing. The Spartans finished with 160 yards of offense.
Koby Peacock threw for 170 yards with two touchdowns and ran for one score to lead the Mansfield offense. David Butler rushed for 112 yards and Jayden Walker and John Rogers each caught one TD pass. Terrance Quaker also returned a kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown. Matt Roberts recorded 12 total tackles, including 1.0 tackle for loss. Dajuan Blue added seven stops, one fumble recovery and four pass breakups.
Kiel McKenzie threw for 103 yards with one touchdown for St. Thomas Aquinas, with that score going to Elizah Gordon. Quazier Dailey rushed for 38 yards and Mahki Matthews finished with 42 receiving yards. Daniel Gibson tallied eight total tackles, including 3.0 tackles for loss.
Mansfield will host Alderson Broaddus Saturday at 1 p.m. in week four, while St. Thomas Aquinas will host Cornell Saturday at 4 p.m.
